In addition to the standard links the TSS newsletter will occasionally contain brief notes from the staff. I've compiled Morgan's notes for mass consumption here. 11/15/02 A NOTE FROM MORGAN WEBB While the cat's away the mice will play, and the fat cats have indeed left the building. While Leo Laporte is reporting from comdex and Patrick Norton is happily on vacation, Megan and I will host The All-Women Screen Savers, Monday, November 18! Those of you who know the women of The Screen Savers know that this does not mean makeover software and high heels. We'll be rolling up our sleeves, doing interviews, giving personal product reviews, and talking tech. So don't miss our little (mis)adventure, and wish me luck in my first ever co-host gig. -- Morgan Webb, "The Screen Savers" 12/06/02 A NOTE FROM MORGAN WEBB Looks like we're going to end the week with a bang, literally! Music record producer, Peter Reardon (aka Mesmer) will demonstrate how he uses a starter gun to make better music for videogames. Then we'll take the fastest CPUs on the market to the limit by overclocking and cooling with liquid nitrogen. This, you have to see! Then, Patrick will reveal his high tech holiday wish list and Nicolas Cage will explain the high and low tech devices required to play dual characters in his new movie "Adaptation." I have a cool way to spruce up your command prompt, and Megan has three big ole' downloads you won't want to miss! Tech news, tech fun, and much more on the next 'Screen Savers.' See you then! Morgan Webb The Screen Savers 01/07/03 A NOTE FROM MORGAN WEBB Hope you enjoyed the show today! Make sure to watch tomorrow when I give you an introduction to our new anime series, "Serial Experiments Lain" in which an innocent young girl becomes a super hacker as the real world and "The Wired" collide. Also, Brett Larson checks in from Macworld and shows us the latest gadgets and gizmos for the most beautiful of operating systems. Can't get enough Mac? Patrick Norton gives us the low down on his personal Switch campaign; find out if his mouse is worn out from his search for the right click, or if he'll never go back to the crash-prone PC. It's all on the next "Screen Savers." Morgan Webb -- The Screen Savers 01/16/03 A NOTE FROM MORGAN WEBB Cat and I had a fabulous time at CES and we've got the video to prove it. Last night we showed you some fun footage from the showroom floor, and tonight we'll reveal the rest of our Vegas adventure including -- drum roll please -- an interview with world class skateboarder and namesake of one of the most popular games of all time, Tony Hawk! We'll also show you a Mac Tip, an interview with 'Mystery Science Theatre's' Kevin Murphy, a new way to stop spam and the perennial favorite, the TSS LAN Party. All this and more on tonight's show. Morgan Webb The Screen Savers 01/30/03 A NOTE FROM MORGAN WEBB You can accomplish a lot while sitting in your cubicle. Today I learned how to make crepe paper flowers, heard Tom Arnold's version of various sordid affairs (research for an upcoming interview), and performed hand exercises with the newest addition to my cubicle family - a squishy penguin with an HP logo on his chest. He hangs out with two other penguins, a think geek monkey, a little stuffed Totoro, two matchbox race cars, a replica sailing ship, a couple of old transistors, some good and some out of date computer books, a squishy Sanyo Blimp, and an extensive collection of video game and anime posters. Yes, I have a lot of crap in my cubicle. I suppose it makes it feel more like home, with all my pictures, calendars, and plants, but I spend most of the time staring at the computer screen. And right now my computer screen tells me we have a great show tomorrow! I am really excited about Herbie Hancock, and Leo is going to pick one of his favorite books, websites, or programs to show you. He would kill me if I told you what it was, so you're just gonna have to watch for yourselves. Also, you don't want to miss Patrick's demonstration of the best ways to clear your old hard drives. Sledgehammer, anyone? The other great thing about tomorrow is the LAN party! We're playing one of my favorite games from the old school, Quake III. Did you register to play yet? Please do, I want to whoop your you-know-whats. See you on TV! Morgan 02/12/03 A NOTE FROM MORGAN WEBB It's car week on The Screen Savers and who likes cars more than I do? Probably most people, if we're going to be honest. Granted, I likely know more about cars than most 24 year-old women due to my mistrust of mechanics and a plethora of car-minded relatives. But for straight drool factor, I'll take the water-cooled, over-clocked, hacked-up, neon-filled, spray-painted, full-size tower over some tricked out car any day. Fill that tower with cool gear and I'm a happy woman. But I digress and should begin again. It's car week on The Screen Savers and there's lots of great stuff about cars and computers! Tonight we'll enroll in Skip Barber's Racing School and learn how Erick Aguilar hacked his Civic within an inch of its life so he could use DOS to reprogram all its chips. Maybe cars aren't so bad after all! Leo will also offer his pic for the best talking GPS navigation systems for your car. Then there's me. Tonight, I will bring you a Windows tip that has absolutely nothing to do with cars. I would do a Windows tip that has to do with cars, but I can't think of one (admittedly I haven't given it much thought). If you have any ideas, please send them to morgan@techtv.com so I can feel included in this car week madness. Because right now I feel very, very, alone.
